Big Brothers Big Sisters Humboldt (BBBS) has its work cut out for them with all the upcoming events.

One event the organization is getting prepared for is the Diva for a Day coming up on June 11, taking place at the Humboldt Golf Course.

BBBS is also hosting a Candle Lake Stay and Play raffle, Director of BBBS Jodie Hergott explains what the raffle entails.

“This is two nights for four people, and I believe it’s unlimited golf. These raffle tickets are 10 dollars each, and are available at the pro shop at the Humboldt Golf Course.”

The draw for the raffle will be held the same day as Diva for a Day, stated Hergott.

Hergott, while excited about the events, also explained that wait times are increasing for mentoring.

“With University classes wrapping up for the year, we’ve had to close some of our in-school mentoring matches, so those kids go back onto our waitlist. We just want to remind people that if you are thinking of becoming a mentor, an in-school mentor is a great introduction to youth mentoring.”

Mentors spend one hour, one day a week at the school. BBBS provides a bin filled with crafts and games to spend time with the child.

Hergott states mentoring has a big impact on youth mental health.

“Having healthy, and supporting relationships and making meaningful connections with friends and family can really protect youth mental health. For the youth, the protective factors not only enhance their ability to cope, but also build resiliency and equipping them to thrive in all aspects in life.”
