Ashwin Leon Poggenpoel
August 15, 1989 – June 18, 2022

The very sudden death of Ashwin Leon Poggenpoel, 32 years of Saskatoon, occurred on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon.

Ashwin was born on August 15, 1989 to Gabriel and Moira (nee Anthony) Poggenpoel in Cape Town, South Africa. He obtained all his elementary education there. When Ashwin was 18, his family moved to Canada and took residency in Annaheim, SK. Ashwin obtained his GED and began employment at Michel’s Industries in St. Gregor. This year he challenged some of his welding tickets and passed with excellence. He was so proud of his accomplishment to have that welding ticket. Soccer was Ashwin’s favourite sport and he played it form a young age up until he came to live in Canada. His favourite soccer team was Manchester United. From the age of 10, Ashwin was interested in cooking and had collected a variety of recipes over the years from many people. He was always very proud of his creations that were very delicious. Ashwin was always full of energy, he respected and loved his family very much, especially teasing and having fun with them. He loved creating music just by writing down lyrics about everything in life. Ashwin’s infectious laugh and giggle will be sadly missed. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Brooklyn Lee Poggenpoel of Annaheim; partner Danielle Leonard of Saskatoon; parents Gabriel and Moira Poggenpoel and sisters Jayd and Jamie, all of Annaheim. Ashwin was predeceased by his brother Diego.

A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. from Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home & Crematorium, officiated by Dr. Terence Davids. Interment will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Ashwin’s memory may be directed to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.
