On November 27 at 1:55 PM CST, there is a scheduled test of Canada’s Alert Ready emergency alert system. That means that all appropriately equipped cell phones will receive the alert test signal.

Alert Ready is designed to transmit potentially life-saving information in the event of severe weather, environmental emergencies, or police situations.

Smartphones capable of connecting to an LTE network will receive the recognizable audible tone and a visual message indicating that a test is being conducted. Some phones may not receive the test signal due to considerations such as LTE connection, signal strength, or device compatibility or settings. The tests are designed to uncover system problems and to maintain public awareness of the service. During the test, there is no need for action.

In 2019, the system was employed in Saskatchewan a total of 39 times, 37 of which were tornado alerts and two for drinking water alerts.
