Elections Canada has reported that turnouts for advance polls in this Federal election have been strong. This year’s national turnout of 4,700,000 electors is up 29% from the 2015 election which had 3,657,415 voters cast advanced ballots. The numbers are based on estimates of polls reporting thus far.

In a news release, Canada’s Chief Electoral Officer Stephane Perrault explained, "More and more, Canadians are taking advantage of early voting opportunities to cast their ballots. Having extended voting hours at advance polls gave Canadians more flexibility to use this option. I want to thank returning officers for their careful planning and the thousands of election workers who made that possible."

Another factor in the early turnout was special ballot voting which took place in the weeks up to the election. Elections Canada offices afforded the opportunity for voters to vote early. All reports from both the advance poll in Humboldt and the Elections Canada office was that early turnout mimicked the national trend. Polls were busy at the Legion Hall in Humboldt throughout the Thanksgiving weekend. Elections Canada staff noted that traffic was brisk throughout the past weeks.

Election Day is Monday, October 21 with polls open in Saskatchewan from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm CST.
