Despite the snow on the ground, this week's crop report indicates 35 percent of the crop has been seeded.

This year's early planting, which is more than triple the five-year seeding average, is credited to the warm and dry weather Saskatchewan has seen so far.

However the 35 percent planted in 2016 is only one percent higher than last year's average at this time.

East Central Saskatchewan is reporting 17 percent of the crop in the ground, up from two percent last week.

It is still the lowest region in the province, with the southwest region leading the way with 58 percent of the crop in the ground. Elsewhere around the province, the south east has 51 percent of the crop planted, 26 percent for the west central region, 23 percent in the Northeast and 21 in the Northwest is planted.

Cropland Topsoil moisture is rated as two percent surplus, 74 percent adequate, 21 percent short and three percent very short.

Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated as one percent surplus, 61 percent adequate, 32 percent short, and six percent very short.

Rain has been minimal the past little while in east central, with topsoil moisture conditions rated at four percent surplus, 82 percent adequate and 14 percent short.
