A number of people in the ag sector were saying we were on track for a bumper harvest.

Bruce Burnett, G3 Canada’s Weather and Crop Specialist, says after the heavy rain and winds of the last week, some areas (including the southwest) are now looking at some severely lodged or flooded out crops.

"We have lost some area though because of these heavier rains in most fields. Certainly in a lot of areas we got the crops planted because of the drier spring but unfortunately we are not going to be able to harvest all of those areas."

Burnett, says we should see a shift in the weather now.

"The current forecast does look as though we are getting into a nicer more typical weather pattern for crops and hopefully that will help to make up for some of the losses we have seen here from these recent rains."

Crop Insurance customers who have crop damage should contact their regional office to discuss their options.
