2016 is the International Year of Pulses.

There’s expected to be a lot of interest in growing pulses again this year.

This week representatives from the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers Association will be on the road talking to producers at their Regional Pulse Workshops.

Carl Potts, the group’s Executive Director explained what they do.

"We always look forward to that... an opportunity to interact between 700 and 1000 growers provide input on where we are making investments in research, and another chance to get input from growers on where we should be going in the future."

Potts expects to see more of a shift this year to pulse acres.

"I"ve heard analysts talk of increases in lentil acres from 10 to 20 per cent in acres, over all. A lot of factors will determine that: what the spring is like, seed availability, that sort of thing," he said.

Tuesday's meeting is in Rosetown at the Civic Centre, Wednesday in Swift Current at the Stockade, and Thursday at Evraz Place in Regina.
