Saskatchewan's Ministry of Agriculture has released its first crop report for the spring.

The report shows that just one percent of seeding has been completed in the province - most of which comes from the southeast and southwest.

That figure is five percent behind last year's progress, where farmers saw warm and dry weather. This year has not been the case as of yet with cooler, wet and even snowy conditions delaying progress.

Early weather has picked up where harvest left off, which saw over one million acres of crop left standing in the field throughout winter.

With an expected upswing in temperatures and a period of relatively dry weather on the way, that should help farmers get started for the spring.

The ministry says it could still be a week or two before operations get underway in the central part of the province.
