Saskatchewan’s farmland values continue to increase but at a slower rate.

Farm Credit Canada’s Report shows Saskatchewan’s average value of farmland is up 9.4% in 2015 compared to the 18.7% gain we saw in 2014.

FCC’s Chief Agricultural Economist J-P Gervais says farmland is increasing but at a slower rate.

He notes not all locations in the province showed an increase,  it depends on the area and how it coordinates with crop receipts.

"If you look at where the increases are coming from, they are actually quite correlated with crop receipts. So, in the case of Saskatchewan, where we saw the largest increase in farmland values are actually in regions where there's quite a bit of concentration in pulse production," Gervais said.

Gervais says some of the key factors affecting farmland values is of course crop receipts, low interest rates and the low Canadian dollar.
