According to a survey from the Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council, 49 per cent of women feel barriers still exist for females in the agricultural sector.

For almost a year, CAHRC has been researching theses barriers through the supporting the advancement of women in agriculture project.

Survey respondents felt the most prevalent barriers including balancing career and family, breaking into the 'old boys club' and a lack of role models.

Labour market information project manager Debra Hauer says in addressing this issue, it's important companies consider female candidates when hiring for leadership positions.

"We're not talking about quotas but we're saying when it comes time to fill a position of the possibilities of people who are possible to go into those positions do include a woman or two in those possibilities."

Hauer says CAHRC will be taking their research and feedback to develop tools and templates to promote women in the ag sector.
