The Saskatchewan NDP are taking the provincial government to task over a tire recycling contract being given to a U-S company, with the help of a former Sask Party cabinet minister, over a local firm.

The New Democrats released documents Tuesday showing that former Sask Party Finance Minister Kevin Doherty was hired by CRM Tire Processing of Newport Beach, California to lobby Premier Scott Moe. In May, 2023, CRM Tire Processing was awarded the contract and Saskatchewan-based Shercom Industries was eventually forced to shut down its processing plant and lay off more than 60 workers after losing the contract after several years.
